Lee Wick Dark Energy

چکیده

We consider the cosmological application of Lee-Wick theory where a field has a higher derivative kinetic operators. The higher derivative term can be eliminated by introducing a set of auxiliary fields. We investigate the cosmological evolutions of these fields as a candidate of dark energy. This model has the same structure as so called “quintom’ model except the form of potentials and the sign of the slope of the potentials. This model can give the stable late time phantom dominated scaling solution (ωDE < −1) or tracking attractors (ωDE = 0) depending on the choice of the slopes of the potential. In order to be a viable dark energy candidate, the present energy density contrast of dark energy (Ω (0) DE) should be close to an observed value (0.73) at the same time. However, a simple toy model of the theory can not satisfy both ω (0) DE ≃ −1 and Ω (0) DE = 0.73. This is also true for any quintom model in literatures unless we suffer from the fine tuning problem. We may need to consider more general potentials to get the realistic model which fits to the current observations.

Comment on "Brown dwarfs, quark stars, and quark-hadron phase transition"

In a recent Letter, Cottingham, Kalafatis and Vinh Mau [1] studied, within the Lee-Wick model, the formation of quark stars in the cosmological quark-hadron phase transition. They conclude that the formation of quark stars with the solar baryon number N ⊙ ∼ 10 57 requires a high degree of supercooling which can be achieved with a reasonable choice of the parameters of the Lee-Wick model. We sho...

Unique Identification of Lee-Wick Gauge Bosons at Linear Colliders

Grinstein, O’Connell and Wise have recently presented an extension of the Standard Model (SM), based on the ideas of Lee and Wick (LW), which demonstrates an interesting way to remove the quadratically divergent contributions to the Higgs mass induced by radiative corrections. This model predicts the existence of negative-norm copies of the usual SM fields at the TeV scale with ghost-like propa...

2 00 1 RHIC : From dreams to beams in two decades

This talk traces the history of RHIC over the last two decades, reviewing the scientific motivations underlying its design, and the challenges and opportunities the machine presents. The opening of RHIC culminates a long history of fascination of nuclear and high energy physicists with discovering new physics by colliding heavy nuclei at high energy. As far back as the late 1960's the possibili...

Unitarity, Lorentz invariance and causality in Lee-Wick theories: An asymptotically safe completion of QED

We revisit the previously unsolved problems of ensuring Lorentz invariance and non-perturbative unitarity in Lee-Wick theories. We base our discussion on an ultraviolet completion of QED by Lee-Wick ghost fields, which is argued to be asymptotically safe. We argue that as long as the state space is based upon a suitable choice of distributions of a type invented by Gel’fand and Shilov, the Lee-...
